An Italian patinated bronze bust of Menelaus
late 19th/early 20th century

After the Antique, on a gilt bronze socle and black slate plinth.

  • Provenance: Footnote:
    This model is thought to be a copy of the head of Menelaus of the Pasquino Group which is a Renaissance marble copy of a Hellenistic bronze original dating to circa 200–150 B.C.E. The marble version is in the Loggia dei Lanzi, Florence.
  • Dimensions: overall height 16 3/4in (42.5cm); width 9 1/2in (24cm); depth 6in (15cm)
  • Condition: With an overall dark brown patina with shiny surface. Possibly repatinated. General marks, scratches, rubbing and wear.
