Persian manuscript on paper, 628 leaves, double columns, 15 lines, marginal column, 26 lines, hand inked text in nasta'liq script within gold and colored rules; headings in red on gold with blue detailing; double title page is elaborately illumined in blue, red, and gold with 5 illuminated headings; 10 larg full-page, and 51 half page miniatures executed in gold and colors; some repairs at margins; lacquered floral covered boards (inner and outer) backed in red calf over cloth; binding loose; the attributed scribe was Muhammed Rasul; with with six illumined leaves, one matted five framed.

Khamsa (also known as Quintet or Panj Ganj) is the best-known work of Nizami Ganjavi (c. 1141-1209 CE) and without a doubt one of the most prominent works of Persian literature. Written during the last decades of the 12th century CE, the Khamsa of Nizami contains five poems and approximately 30,000 couplets.

Nizami Ganjavi
Ilyas Yusuf Nizami Ganjavi is one of the greatest romantic poets of Persian literature. He was born in 1141 CE in Ganja (modern-day Azerbaijan) and lived during the Seljuq Dynasty (c. 1037-1194 CE), which was a vast Turkish tribal confederation then ruling over Persia.
