    Footnote:
George Henry spent the first couple years of his career traveling throughout Connecticut painting portrait commissions in addition to "painting fireboards, window shades, family crests, repainting old portraits, repairing and reglazing canvases and any other such common requests". This child's portrait is very likely to be that of Elizabeth O'Kane, the daughter of Joseph and Ann O'Kane of Naugatuck, Connecticut (born 1839 or 1840). Her parents had their portraits painted by Durrie in 1840. It is recorded in Durrie's record book: "Nov. 11, 1842 Portrait of Mr. O'Kaine's Child full length 15.00", Durrie frequently seems to have changed the spelling of a sitter's name in his record book and on the back of a canvas.
