Description:

Canyon Diablo Individual fragment

Arizona, USA
IAB-MG (main group) Coarse Octahedrite
Discovery: 1891

Easily one of the most famous impact craters in the world, Canyon Diablo meteorites get their name from the nearest Post Office at the time, a notorious railway town 10 miles north of Meteor Crater, Arizona. All the iron meteorites found at this location are from the same fall and are thought to be fragments of the same parent body exhibiting similar Widmanstätten patterning as well as several inclusions and nodules.

This lovely Canyon Diablo individual "arrrow head" specimen displays characteristic bowl-shaped regmaglypts and flight features underneath a lustrous polished surface.

weighing 1724 g; measuring 4.75 x 3.75 x 2.75 in (120.65 x 95.25 x 69.85 mm)
