possibly Vietnamese

With mythical beast handles and raised atop a separately cast foot, the sides covered in silver and bronze inlay depicting pastoral figures.

    A very similar example from the Marilyn Ackerman collection also described as 'possibly Vietnamese' sold Christie's, New York, 29 June 2001, lot 98. Another jardinière dated to the Bao Dai reign of 1945-1949 sold Bonham's, San Francisco, 9 September 2008, lot 2715.
  • Dimensions: overall height 5 1/2in (14cm); width 14in (35.5cm); depth 4 3/4in (12cm)
  • Condition: In two sections. Height of stand 1 1/2in. With an overall dark brown patina to surface. General marks, scratches, rubbing, verdigris oxidation and wear commensurate with age and use. With later flower frog affixed to interior. Some corrosion to interior.
