Winchester, Connecticut
early 19th century
The white painted arched dial inscribed R. WHITING WINCHESTER, having Arabic numerals with a subsidiary seconds dial, having a single train thirty-hour wooden works movement striking on a bell, the interior case having an original applied paper Riley Whiting maker's label, the dial hand dated 1831 to the top edge.
height 82 1/2in (209.5cm); width 16 3/4in(42.5cm); depth 9 3/4in (24.5cm)

  • Provenance:
Property from a Long Beach, California Private Collection.
  • Dimensions: height 82 1/2in (209.5cm); width 16 3/4in(42.5cm); depth 9 3/4in (24.5cm)
  • Condition: The case is in overall good condition with general marks and wear. Retaining an old dry alligatored finish. Appears to have some cleaning up to the box base and trunk. The arched dial with craquelure overall, minor scuffs, scratches and chip losses to the paint, no evidence on any in-painting. The wooden works movement appears to be intact, however has not run for years and is dirty and dusty overall. The glass panel to hood has been replaced. The brass finials appear to be original. With replacement and reinforcement to the bottom board. The case has possibly been reduced in height at the base of feet long ago. Typical dings, dents and surface scratches. With two weights and pendulum, the bob to the pendulum is replaced. The clock is not currently running. Andrew Jones Auctions does not guarantee the clock's completeness or working condition.
