Japan: Edo Dai Setsuyo. ca.1863. small 4to tie bound historical survey of Japanese history; with 33 pages of color woodblock illustrations including maps of the world, Japan, Okinawa, Hokkaido, Kyoto, Osaka and the trading port of Yokohama. The spectacular colored plates depict Mt. Fuji, an unusual view looking down into the crater of Mt. Fuji, Edo Nihonbashi (the beginning of the Tokaido Road), panoramic scenery and cultural gatherings in Edo. Other sections of the book relate to history, mathematics, weapons and samurai, farming, and other aspects of 19th century Japanese life, illustrated throughout; bound in publisher's embossed yellow wraps with title label to cover. good overall, color plates remain bright and bold. 2. A 1781 four volume (bound as one) treatise on samurai sword makers, along with customary sword arts and craftsmanship; a few black and white block illustrations in volumes one and two; bound in publisher's embossed tan wraps with title label to covers for all four volumes. good overall. 3. Mythological Japan or The Symbolism of Mythology in Relations to Japanese Art. Alexander F. Otto; Theodore S. Holbrook. Philadelphia: Drexel Biddle Publisher, 1902. first and limited edition of 950 copies. color chromo-lithographs throughout; bound in publisher's blue rough silk covered boards with pictorial label to cover. 4to. 63 pp. 4. The Lives of the Loyal Ronin, 1885. 4to; bound in publisher's brown stamped cloth over boards, with 48 full page color wood block prints along with short biographies of each figure; considerable wear to covers, interior prints remain bright and bold.
