Description:

Campo del Cielo Individual

Grand Chaco, Gualamba, Argentina
IAB-MG (main group) Coarse Octahedrite
Discovery: 1576

Aptly translating into "Field of the Sky", Campo del Cielo was first documented by early Spanish explorers and later even used to manufacture weapons during the War of Independence from Spain. Several large specimens were found throughout the 20th century with many being donated to museums around the world. But as farmers and ranchers located more and more specimens on their land, they found a developing meteorite market for collectors in the 1990s.

An individual specimen with partial regmaglypts and exhibiting graphite and troilite inclusions on a polished surface and anthropomorphically resembling a "finger".

weighing 378 g; measuring 3 x 2.5 x 1.75 in (76.2 x 63.5 x 44.45 mm)
