After the Antique, the base inscribed MUSÉE DU LOUVRE, on an ebonized pedestal.

  • Provenance: Footnote:
    First recorded in 1611 after having just been found at Nettuno, the marble example was in the Borghese collection by 1613. The sculpture was purchased by Napoleon Bonaparte, brother-in-law of Camillo Borghese, in 1807 and placed in the Salle d'Apollon of the Musée Napoléon. The original currently in the collection of the Musée du Louvre.
  • Dimensions: the bronze height 32in (81cm); length 34in (86.5cm); width 23in (58.5cm); overall height 67in (170cm)
  • Condition: the bronze height 32in (81cm); length 34in (86.5cm); width 23in (58.5cm). With an overall even dark brown patina to surface. General marks, scratches and areas of scuffing, notably to base.
